Today is such a sad anniversary. September 11, 2001 was a day that changed so much about our reality. We are now told by news media and politicians to be fearful all the time. 9/11 was a scary day. Especially for those who lived near the crash sights or those with family who died. My aunt C works in Pentagon city(the area surrounding the actual Pentagon) She had just gotten to her desk when a co-worker said "Oh my, a plane, it has hit the Pentagon." She actually saw it from her window(they were across the street) The terror of trying to get out of there and home seems unimaginable. She said cars were driving over grass and sidewalks. Explosions could be heard and shook the earth(from the broken gas lines and fire from the crash) My cousins were at school - my other aunt had to drive into DC to get one of the boys. Not knowing if other attacks were coming. My other cousins described for me their emergency plans to get home from school that they now have. It just seems wrong that kids have to have a plan in case of a terror attack.
On 9/11 I had a class so I went. It was a very solemn group. My sister was given the task of trying to track down the family to make sure everyone was okay and had made it home safe. Because so many people were trying the phones it was a long task. Today they'll show clips of the planes and the after math. They'll talk about terrorists and what has happened since. Families who lost people will see clips of the crash and implosions and know that was when their son/daughter/husband/wife died.
Today the sun is shining here - just like it was in New York on 9/11. I am senidng a prayer up for those who lost people, for children who lost parents, for people who feel innocence was lost. May we never forget but be able to move on.
