Have you seen the signs? No I don't mean some weird X-files type signs but the signs that an election is coming. It is almost time to exercise your right to vote. Grab you pencil and head to your polling station.
Here in the great country of Canada we will be heading to the polls on October 14th. Write it on your calendar. If you can't make that day(no excuses like I need to wash my hair!!) there are lots of advanced polling stations open already.
Voting is an important right and one everyone should exercise. While men have almost always had the right to vote women have not. Some pretty fabulous ladies got out there and campaigned for your right to put an X in a box. They were ridiculed, and condescended to. Yet they stuck to it. It was 1919 when Canada made the right to vote for women official. Provinces followed behind with the exception of Quebec that didn't allow women to vote until 1940!!!!!
Some middle eastern countries still do not allow women to vote, even though it is considered a right(since 1979) by the UN under the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women.
There is no excuse for not voting - it takes no more than a few minutes; after all how hard is it to colour in a circle or mark and X. 76% of Canadians vote - which is better than the US(only 50%) but much less than Malta or Austria that are above 90%.
Let your voice be heard on elections day. It doesn't take more than a few minutes to Google the parties and read what they stand for. If you can take the time to read a blog you can take the time to learn about the candidates. If you don't vote - no complaining about the government. No vote, no voice!

My hubby would love this post as he loves to watch the political channels and he's pumped to learn about where we need to vote now that we are in BC, etc.
